Chest pain can be a very alarming experience. Many people automatically associate chest pain with a medical emergency. While this is not always the case, it is not a symptom that should be ignored.

You may feel chest pain anywhere from your neck to your upper abdomen. Depending on its cause, chest pain may be sharp, dull, burning, aching, stabbing, or cause a tight, squeezing, crushing sensation.

Diagnosing Chest Pain

Regardless of your circumstances or the degree of discomfort caused by the chest pain you are experiencing, you should never ignore or attempt to self-diagnose such a symptom. Again, if you believe your chest pain is serious, urgent, or life threatening, do NOT call a doctor, CALL 911 IMMEDIATELY.

Dr. Bellur treats some patients experiencing non-life threatening chest pain through an exercise or chemical stress test, which enables us to see how well their heart and body responds to physical activity.

In some situations, we may prescribe an echocardiogram to assess heart and valve function, or a Holter Monitor, also known as a portable EKG, to patients who are experiencing chest pain, dizziness, or an irregular heartbeat. Over the course of the day, the EKG will monitor your heart’s activities to record any irregular rhythms or other conditions.

Dr Shashi S Bellur MD and his staff at The Heart & Vascular Specialists offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic testing and treatments to care for the conditions that cause chest pain.
